Book Review – I am America, and So Can You

Book: I am America (and So Can You)
Author: Stephen Colbert
Read: April/May of 2011, while I was wrapping school up

I’ve had a great deal of fun reading this book. Mr. Colbert’s parody of conservative newsmen has always been hilarious to me, and to see it extended into book form is an adventure in hilarity. I will admit that as you read it’s too easy sometimes to forget that the character that Mr. Colbert plays isn’t for real, but that’s the art of parody, right there: Making other believe you believe what you’re saying.

I’ll admit that I forgot I had started the review, and am just not, in August, resuming the process of writing it. This means none of my impressions are very fresh anymore. It was fun, I remember that. And it did a good job of shining the light of “you’re a pack of morons” on a lot of the conservative agenda. The world needs more realization that extremism is unhealthy. Or at least America does. I can’t speak with that much finality about what the rest of the world needs, not really familiar enough.
