A quick rundown of what holograms are, the beginning of a series that I recommend the curious watch. I’ve included the second part of the series here to make things easy. Part three I’ll post as soon as it comes out. I do like the old DN stuff, and hope that Seeker will prove out to be just as interesting.

White Orcas!
I’m always astounded by images of unusual animals. That’s why last year I talked about the albino dolphin found by the Taiji roundup. That story was somewhat sad in that the family of the unusual specimen was destroyed by the pointless atrocity that is the Taiji Cove roundup.
The animal displayed above is called Iceberg. Iceberg was originally spotted in 2010. He’s part of a family that has remained together off the coast of Russia. The modern sighting has verified him and his family as part of the fish eating type of Orca, but his status as either true albino or leuistic has not yet been established. Russian waters are home to more than one white Orca, but this suggests that the population may be breeding closely and thus resulting in this concentration of recessively colored animals. Currently in Russia 5 white individuals have been confirmed, and there is evidence that suggests that the actual numbers might be as high as 8.
I look forward to the ongoing research on this unique population, and hope that the White Orcas of Russia continue to swim free!
The Rare Fire Rainbow
I originally planned to do something that involved more writing on my part. The day just got away from me. So instead I present you a picture of a phenomenon called a “Fire Rainbow”.
I think it’s Rather lovely, don’t you?
I direct you to Discovery News for an article that includes the science.
Milk Alternatives & You…
I’m one of the 65% of people who happens to be lactose intolerant, and found this video interesting.
Aside from that…
Today I had a pretty crazy day. The dog’s had the poos for a few days now, and Late last night he ended up vomitting. Long story short, after a lot of cleaning up, some scary blood, and a trip to the vet I’ve discovered that he’s got Colitis (and a bit of an ear infection, actually…). So we’re doing the special diet and serving him up some serious antibiotics. Teddy should be better soon. I’ll keep updating.
Modern Mafia
The Mafia exist in more than movies and have seen a fair bit of press lately in the news. In accordance I figured it was a good moment to share this Test Tube video from Discovery talking about the largest modern Crime Families.
Facebook Gender Options!
That’s right, Facebook made some changes. See the Discovery News report on it!
It’s great to see better options, and acceptance showing up on Facebook. There’s more to gender than “Male” and “Female”. At least here in America people have the right to be who they are. We believe in freedom. This is part of it.
Twilight Memory (Or: The Brain Reacts to Shit)
Scrutiny is going to come to pot consumption. Use-over-time does, according to initial studies, effect intelligence. It’s early studies, but the memory impairment seems set-in-stone. It does actually demonstrate that the brain is dramatically changed by usage. Currently, scientists don’t have a great deal of research yet, and I really feel that that’s an important step in the legalization process.
The short version is that high usage is not good for you. As in all things, Moderation is key.
Effects of Captivity on the Orca Mind
The Documentary Blackfish (available on Netflix at the time I’m writing this) posits alot of things, and is based off the book I reviewed yesterday called Death at Seaworld. There’s a lot going on, and I’m not sure I completely understand all of the complexities of all of the details of the situation, but I’m not sure I’m a captivity supporter for these animals…
